EXPLORING WINTER WILDLIFE AT SEA AT 69° NORTH

Experience the Arctic winter wildlife at sea in Andøy, located in the Vesterålen region. This area offers stunning wildlife diversity, including birds, seals, and whales. We offer winter wildlife-watching tours on RIB boats off the coast of Andøy.

Though we experience the opposite of the midnight sun during this season, with short daylight hours, much of the wildlife remains active or becomes even more abundant. Many eagles and sperm whales spend the winter here, and some exotic bird species overwinter, taking advantage of the abundant fish and the ice-free waters maintained by the Gulf Stream.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPERIENCE?

White-tailed eagles: These majestic birds with broad wings hunt for fish and other prey. White-tailed eagles mate for life and return to the same nesting sites year after year.
King Eider: One of the unique bird species that we might spot during the trip.
Seals: Both common seals and grey seals are often seen resting on reefs close to shore.
Whales: Weather permitting, the trip may include opportunities to spot whales such as orcas (killer whales) and humpback whales as they follow the herring into the fjords. Other whale species may also appear.

2 RIB boats, each accommodating 12 passengers.

DURATION:

Approximately 2 hours.

SECURITY & CLOTHING:

We provide life-/flotation suits, gloves, and goggles. However, as this is an Arctic adventure, we recommend wearing warm base layers, dry, sturdy shoes, and a warm, windproof jacket with a hood.

PROCEDURE:

Check-in: 45 minutes before departure.
Safety briefing: Your guide will provide instructions and safety information.
Boarding: Follow the guide’s instructions as you board the boats.
