Gaveltinden is the second-highest peak on Andøya Island, with 2172ft. The topdelivers panoramic views over the southern part of the island, as well as thesurrounding fjords and other islands of the Vesterålen archipelago. This is also a wonderful place to do backcountry skiing and inthe summer the forest is rich in berries and mushrooms. On route to the top you can be spoiled with views of Ptarmigans, Eagles or Buzzards, depending on the time of year.

The entire trek to Gaveltinden is uphill, but a gradual ascent ensures the trail is not too demanding. This is also a wonderful place to do backcountry skiing and in the summer the forest is rich in berries and mushrooms. This trip can be done summer and winter. Guide is not necessaary, but we can provide this if you wish. Total time spent from the lodge is about 2 hours to the top.

How to get there from the Lodge: Walk or drive 3 km southwards, by the church where you may park, and the climb starts there. We can bring you there with our car at no cost if you wish. For more details see below and/or search the net for Gaveltinden Andøya.

When you arrive back to thelodge we will have the sauna heated and may offer you Italian pizza and a beeror a glass of red wine.

Arctic Ocean Lodge

Arctic Ocean Lodge is situated in Northern Lofoten on the island of Andøya, Vesteralen, 300km north of the Arctic Circle in Norway where every 6 months the Northern Lights swap places with the Midnight Sun. A former historical fishing and trading post right on the water, Arctic Ocean Lodge has been converted into a charming lodge with all the modern amenities on site. Accommodation is available in 3 separate buildings with privacy or community for groups from 2 to 30 people. There are docking facilities on site for up to 10 boats with safe anchorage in all weather conditions as well as water and electric available. In addition to comfortable single, double and triple rooms, Arctic Ocean Lodge offers waterfront wood burning hot tubs, private polar plunge beach, a restaurant with stone pizza oven and a full service bar. You can just rest at your new home and admire the stunning fjord views or you can start a mountain hike right outside the door, go fishing with our motorboat, learn how to sail on our classic Norwegian sailing expedition vessel, try dog sledding / carting and meet the huskies at the adjacent farm, or do an yoga session on the porch / loft. Arctic Ocean Lodge is a short 20min drive to Risoyhamn Hurtigruten Pier and 1hr from Andenes Airport and Sortland Bus Station. We can arrange transportation for group arrivals.

We are open all year around and is committed to exceed expectaitons. The Amundsen Bar opens up for pucblic end June 2024.
